The Alabama Spotted Bass is truly the unsung hero of the Etowah River. An indigenous fish that has lived in the Coosa River system and tributaries for its entire existence, on purpose. Spots fight hard, eat aggressively and make for a fearsome antagonist to a 6 and 7 weight fly rod. These fish are in the river all 12 months of the year and attainable as such. Spring and Summer months are great for small/medium streamers, popping bugs and large terrestrials. Fall is the time of year they gorge on bait, fattening up for winter. Larger streamers work well then. Winter fishing for spotted bass does slow down depending on water temp but, jig flies fished slowly across rock ledges will often produce some of the biggest fish of the year.
We furnish all fly rods and light tackle spinning rods and our guide trips.
Typical rig set up for fishing spotted bass in the Etowah River is a 6 or 7 weight fly rod paired with a disc drag reel. Spinning tackle ranges from Medium Light to Medium Fast action rods measuring 6'6" to 7' equipped with a 2500 size spinning reel.
